Sequence of 12

After reviewing my series of 8 images, I wrote out a short narrative so I could visualise my story:

"Insect finds a shoe on a riverbank, investigates and accidentally pushes it into the river - it floats.
The insect rides down the river, seeing other animals and fish etc. around.
The shoe crashes into a rock, overturns and sends the insect into the water..."

I took what I wrote and created these images, refining the story as I went along:

I think visually I could have used better media rather then crayon, to make the image feel more complete.
The composition and space have worked well, because I applied the background into the story, but I should have framed it better and not allowed the image to reach all the way to the edge of the paper. Doing this sometimes makes the drawings cut short, almost as if some of the image is missing.
However I think the story works well, with a good variety of camera angles and even some action at the end!

Series of 8

Developing from my 32 images, I chose the shoe-on-water image, because I thought I could create a nice narrative for my storyboard.

With my 8 images I explored different camera angles I could use, and used paint, ink, pro markers, fine liners, pencils and crayons to see which media I thought worked best.

I think I've got a good variety of camera angles, looking at different view points from the under the water, looking over the boat (shoe), and from the sky. Hopefully having a variety of view points will show off the background/world that I've created, and keep my story interesting.

The paint looks too streaky for my liking, it gives a natural texture for the shoe, but I found it tiring and annoying to use, since it doesn't colour the whole section you want unless you put several layers on.
I enjoyed using the ink and nips, because I had to work slower to get the line to the same consistency, which is better for applying detail. The crayons and pro markers also work well with the ink since the colours I used were highlighted by the thin lines.
I find it easier to use pencils, because it's easier to develop shading and rub out any wrong lines, but for this task I wanted to explore and practice using different media.
That's why I'm going to use ink and crayons to complete my 12 images, which will give me a chance to practice drawing fine lines and highlighting with crayons.

Western Spaghetti - PES

As Part of a task for our Visual Language module, I had to pick a word at random, then create 32 images based on that word as ideas for how it could be made/what it's related to.
The word I was given was "shoes", so I have to consider what makes up a shoe.
This is what I have taken as inspiration for one of my ideas:

I think it has an interesting concept, using unexpected objects and perceiving them as something else... It's a very creative way to make a meal!

I like PES's style, as they have made similar animations to this one, using inanimate objects and pretending they're something else... Such as: Fresh Guacamole, The Deep, and Game Over.

32 Images of Shoes...

As Part of a task for our Visual Language module, I had to pick a word at random, then create 32 images based on that word as ideas for how it could be made/what it's related to.
The word I was given was "shoes", so I have to consider what makes up a shoe, etc.
These were the 32 images I drew in A5 size squares:

Some of them definitely work better then others... I think these 5 ideas work best out of them all:

Idea 13
My thoughts for this were to show the shoe lace having a life of its own, crawling like a caterpillar or snake seeing the world from a low perspective...

Idea 11
With idea 11 I thought I could experiment with how shoes fit together (wellingtons in particular), so thought the best way to represent this was to build a wall.

Idea 18
With this, the ballet shoes could have a life of their own; doing the traditional ballet dance routines, but without the person to guide them. This would put emphasis on the part feet have to play in dancing - and every day life.

Idea 25
I came up with the idea to illustrate the nursery rhyme "there was an old woman who lived in a shoe", because I think I could create a few nice images representing the story. However, it's not my own story, and there aren't enough lines in the rhyme to be able to create a 12 image narrative for.

Idea 6

After reviewing all of these ideas, I have decided to go with idea 6. Because I think I could create a good narrative with the idea of an insect riding a boat, experimenting with media and colour along the way.
